US lawsuit: AI giants coordinated slowdown, cut subscription value
A new U.S. federal lawsuit in the Northern District of California claims Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI and Google illegally coordinated an AI development slowdown — violating antitrust laws — and thereby reduced the value paid subscribers get from ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Gemini. Per Fortune, the alleged coordination centers on Sept. 12: Dario Amodei’s essay urging industry deceleration for safety, and public replies from Sam Altman, Elon Musk and Demis Hassabis. Plaintiffs seek a nationwide class of paid subscribers; the companies did not immediately comment.
